Don K-xote

A blog about Korean drama television shows from the perspective of a middle-aged, white, American man.

Self-Introduction

Annyeong haseyo! I am Don K-xote (pronounced “dawn kay-HO-tay,” an allusion to Cervantes’ famous novel Don Quixote, which I am using as a pen name & hope to explain shortly in another blog post).

Please take care of me!

I began watching Korean drama television shows (henceforth, “K-dramas”) in the summer of 2018. As I launch this blog in January of 2020, I’ve watched almost 100 K-dramas (not including shows I have started then dropped). I have mainly streamed these shows on the Viki Rakuten channel on Roku, but I’ve watched quite a few on Netflix as well, along with purchasing shows on DVD when I couldn’t stream them anywhere.

Considering that each show usually consists of 16-20 episodes each lasting about an hour (though I’ve also watched a few 50 episode shows too!), that’s around 2,000 hours of K-drama viewing over the last 1.5 years.

My hope for this blog is to offer some explanation of my interest in K-dramas (for those friends who are still struggling to understand), to recommend various K-dramas and celebrate some of the best performers and creators in the medium, and to promote conversation on these shows by sharing news, questions, and links to other helpful online material.

I would be grateful for your help in commenting with any improvements that can be made as I am lacking in many ways.

Kamsamnida!!
